Happy Birthday Mamo/Mom!

Happy Birthday to the best Grandma and Mom.  Of all the people in this world, I think my Mom is the nicest and most caring woman.  She is nice to complete strangers and it's not just a fake nice, no it's a genuine sincerity.  My Mom is the type of person that will do anything for you and even if you don't ask for help, she's always there, willing.  As a little girl, that's what I remember most, her constant caring ways.  She always, always listened to me and made me feel like I was the most important person in the world.  If I was sick or didn't do too great at my speech meets or didn't get the grade I thought I deserved, she was always there supporting me.  I always got the feeling that Mom liked spending time with me and Cyndi because she'd always let us tag along and go with her.  Maybe that's why both Cyndi and I love to spend time with her today.

I can always count on my Mom, I knew it when I was a kid, in high school, in college, in facing difficult times in my adulthood and now being a Mom myself.  My Mom doesn't know this but I strive to be like her.  I think about my own youth....all the love and support, believing in me, encouraging me, disciplining me, making time for me, demanding I take responsibility for my own mistakes and making me work hard.....all these things I got from my Mom.  So I strive to be just like her everyday when I wake up and hear Aidan's voice.

Aidan is very lucky to get to spend his days with Grandma.  He already has a kindness about him that has to be attributed to his "Mamo".  Mom and I don't agree on everything and we have struggles but I respect and love her so much and we always find a way to work through things.  I guess Mom did forget to tell me that parenting is not easy and it's not for wimps!

Happy Birthday Mom, I love you.

Aidan's first week of preschool

Aidan started preschool this past Tuesday, November 29, 2011.  For now, he goes Tuesdays and Thursdays for five hours in the morning.  Ideally what we would like is for him to go Monday, Wednesday and Fridays.  Aidan did really well this week and loves to go.  Being around kids his own age, learning to share and get along with many kids, not constantly being the center of attention, learning to be more independent since there is only one teacher and two helpers and getting use to a structured learning time, song & circle time, playground, arts/crafts and designated snack/lunch time are wonderful for his growing and development.  He eats lunch at preschool and they decide and provide the meals.  For his first day, the kids had bean/cheese burritos, broccoli and peaches.  Aidan has not successfully ate these items before but on Tuesday, he did eat part of the burrito.  Apparently all it takes sometimes if for kids to be around other kids and miraculous things happen!

Papa's Birthday!

Happy Birthday Papa!  I hope you had a great birthday, I had fun coming to see you and Grandma.  It rained all day but I like getting out plus Mommy sings me the "It's raining, it's pouring song" the entire drive to your house....plus I really liked going to eat at the pizza place and keep telling everyone how big that fan was above us.  Thanks for letting me blow out your candles and make a mess eating your carrot cake.  I like coming over to your house and getting all kinds of snacks and love driving my trains around your table but I love you even more.

Mommy says you have the best, most youthful smile and that when I'm driving my trains around the table, you are always smiling at me and that when you chuckle at something funny I'm doing that your inner kid comes out!

Gymnastics!

Aidan tried out a gymnastics class for the first time back the first Saturday of November.  The session was 45 minutes long for three Saturdays in total.  This past Saturday was his last class and after three classes I have to say that Aidan really liked it and was pretty good at it.  He had the best instructor, Ryan, but unfortunately is moving back to Connecticut so I'll try and find another class for Aidan.

Happy Halloween!

Aidan loved trick or treating this year!  Mom, Aunt Linda, Tim and I walked with Aidan while Grampy passed out candy at home.  Aidan did it all, carried his candy pail, knocked on the doors, said trick or treat and thank you and then would say "more house" or more "trick or treat".  He went in a scary haunted house with Daddy and didn't cry.  We had so much fun going with him.  It's great being able to see your kids face light up because he's having such fun.  Aidan trick and treated for about an hour and a half and then dumped out his candy and  enjoyed sitting watching tv and eating it!  We sang happy birthday to Aunt Linda and Aidan got to help blow out the candle!

Aidan stayed up pretty late, I think it was about 9:30 when we got home but worth it!

Happy Halloween from the world's cutest train engineer!

Happy Birthday Aunt Linda!

As Aidan would say "happy Aunta".  He also practiced singing the "happy" song this morning.  He is very excited to eat Aunta's cupcakes and go trick or treating!  I love it when my Aunt Linda and Aunt Cathy come to visit.  We've been really lucky because Aunt Linda has got to stay for over two weeks.  I might not get to see her or do something with her each day but it's just a great feeling knowing that she is here.  My Aunt Linda really listens to me and always does, always has made me feel special.  She loves helping take care of Aidan and just being around all of us.  Tim, Aidan and I love it when she comes to visit.  I'm so glad she's here to go trick or treating with us and that she's spending her special day with us.

Happy Birthday, we love you!

Halloween at Papa/Grandma's house

Aidan and I went and visited Papa and Grandma yesterday.  Aidan was a good sport and wore his costume to Papa/Grandma's house.  Right when he pulled into the driveway, I said "Aidan, can you put on your train hat" and he said "ok Mommy".  He had so much fun at their house.  They put together a goodie bag with all kinds of treats from candy to glow in the dark Thomas stickers, coloring books, stretchy froggy, Mickey Mouse Halloween book and a few other things.  He played "baseball" with Grandma and Papa (whiffle balls and bat), ate lunch, played trains at their dinner table, popped bubbles outside, had storytime with them and just a lot of fun.

Thanks Papa and Grandma for a fun afternoon.

Happy Birthday via webcam from Grandma & Grandpa

My Grandma & Grandpa wished me a happy birthday over web cam and not only did I get to talk to them, I got to open the present they sent me and they got to see me open it! It's like I'm sitting right in front of them....even though we're 2000 miles apart. I love the present they gave me, THOMAS THE TRAIN!

Grandma showed me her talking Halloween/witch hat as well as the singing skeleton, I thought both were really funny!  Grandpa whistled for Molly so I got to see "ruff ruff".

It was nice seeing my grandparents, I sure miss them.  After we were done with web cam and for the remainder of the evening, I kept asking for both of them.

Thank you Grandma & Grandpa for my present, I love you both!

Pumpkin Patch

We had a blast at the pumpkin patch this past Sunday. I think it's the most fun we've ever had at the Farm because of our family that went with us...Mamo, Grampy, Daddy, Mommy, Aunt Linda, Aunt Cathy, Dawn-Dawn, Dylan, Kammi, Aunt Cyndi, Uncle Eric and Brandon! We played, fed the animals, rode the train, ate some lunch, rode the cow train, played in the pumpkin patch, played in the bean bin, climbed the combine and went down the slide. We were at the pumpkin patch for a little over four hours and we all had a really fun time!

Party Party Party

Aidan had his birthday party this past Saturday at Travel Town in Griffith Park. The party was fun, it was great having our family and friends there to celebrate with us. Tim grilled hot dogs, we all ate, the kids did the pinata (Aidan loved hitting the pinata so much that he did not want to stop and let the other kids have a turn), we all sang happy birthday to Aidan (he did not cry, but seemed to like it) and then we all rode the same train together! It was a lot of fun! Aidan absolutely loves trains and I bet the train went by us at least 30 times while we were there, Aidan would run over to the fence each time and just smile and stare!

Aidan opened a few presents at Travel Town but the weather was in the 90s so after a bunch of fun pictures and everyone marveling at the tricycle Dad fixed up for Aidan, we packed up and headed home.

Mom made us all a delicious Mexican food dinner, we played, Aidan opened his presents and then we went home and got boo-ed by Aunt Cyndi, Uncle Eric and Brandon....apparently being boo-ed is a good thing because you get your doorbell rang and lots of fun snacks and toys are waiting in the pumpkin bucket!

I got to read to my two favorite little boys....B doesn't spend the night at our house very often so it was a real treat to have him there.

Another birthday has come and gone and it seems like Aidan is changing right now more than ever.  He's taller, smarter, much more opinionated, wants to do things on his own, repeats everything he hears, sleeps in a toddler bed, enjoyed opening his birthday presents, understands & talks about what is happening around him, loves to laugh, loves to make us laugh, loves everything there is to love about trains, tells us every time "I heard the train", loves to play with his trains but equally loves to get mad when the trains come off the track.  He has a great memory and with his increasing vocabulary is able to tell us so much more.  He still loves to play with my phone, mainly to look at pictures and videos but has adapted well to the new "no toy policy" at the dinner-table.  He does so many wonderful things on a daily basis which reminds me to take a deep breath, focus on all the positive and remind myself that one day he will actually be potty trained, at some point in life it won't take him 55 minutes to eat a corn-dog (and still leave 1/4 of it!), he'll focus & take his socks off by himself, that he'll stop screaming and the few other daily nuisances we work through each day.

No matter what happens during the day, at the end of each day, I find joy in reading and singing to him and I try to remember how fast time gets away from us and take the time to appreciate it, even the not-so-fun times, because it's all a part of life and being a parent and one day, I'll miss these toddler years.

Happy 3rd Birthday!

It's hard to believe that you're already three years old!  Daddy and I came in your room this morning to wake you up and we both are just in awwwwww at how cute you are!  Your face lit up when we sang happy birthday and just watching you sit on your bed and open a present was a great way to start the day.  We went over to Grandma/Grampy's and had breakfast, you got to meet your cousin Shannon and her boyfriend Mike, you kept asking about the baby (Kammi), you had fun waking up Dylan and then we were off to the Zoo for the day.  We had pizza and chocolate cake when we got back and you cried when we all sang you happy birthday but you did blow out your candles and after a brief episode of tears, you were happily eating ice-cream, having fun, opening presents and playing with your new gifts.  We are happy that you enjoy opening presents and once we got home and you hopped into bed, we gave you our last present......books, but Thomas the Train books and you just sit there, flipping through the pages and looking at all the pictures.  I say it often but you really are my sunshine, I'm so happy to be your Mommy, my life felt complete the day you were born and I feel truly blessed and fortunate to have you in my life.  As Daddy and I were kissing you goodnight and as I was standing up from your bed, you said in the sweetest voice "thanks".  I love you Aidan.

Relay for Life weekend

This past weekend was a very busy one.  Aidan and I went to the Simi Relay for Life on Sat morning.  Mom, Tim, Aunt Cyndi, Uncle Eric, Brandon and Aunt Linda all came by the event as well.  On Saturday night, Aidan had a sleepover at Grandma/Grampy's house with everyone!

Yesterday (Sunday) was quite a struggle.  I took Aidan to his friend Shayleigh's 3rd birthday but we had some major misbehaving going on at Mom's, attempting to get ready to leave.  It wasn't fun and it was the first time that I almost didn't take Aidan to a party/function because I was fed up with his behavior.
We went to the party and Aidan played in the jumper and had fun with the other kids.  When I told him it was time to go, well, you can probably guess by now what he did.....yep screamed and then attempted to dart out into the street as we were walking to our car....WHEWWWWW

We went home and Aidan was super excited to see his new train bed all put together and in his room!  Daddy worked all day on removing the crib and assembling Aidan's new Thomas the Train bed.  And...thanks to Aunt Cyndi, Uncle Eric and Brandon's early b-day present, Aidan has the matching bedding which looks so cute!
We went over to Grandma/Grampy's to eat some burgers with Aunt Linda.  After dinner (and ice-cream), we headed home for bathime which turned out....not so fun.  For some reason, Aidan no longer wants me to wash him and had a complete meltdown.  Not fun, not fun at all.  We bypassed playing, read some books and Aidan layed down in his new bed like a champ.  We kissed him goodnight and then the crying began and lasted 20 minutes but he fell asleep, stayed and slept in his new bed all night!

This morning, Aidan sat on his potty for 15 minutes and pooped in the potty for the very first time.  Of course I rewarded him with a bunch of stickers!

I'm truly struggling as we work through his "naughty side".  I know that I am no different than all the other moms out there but honestly, how can you NOT take it personally when your own child is acting so badly.  I went to bed last night completely wore out, wondering if my little boy would stay in his new bed, thinking about this new stage, feeling zero regrets for moving the crib out but taking a moment to accept the tiny bit of sadness I feel as a Mom because my baby is no longer a baby but feeling a great sense of pride because he is growing up and doing big boy things.

Aunt Linda is coming...yippee

My Aunt Linda is flying to see me tomorrow!  I cannot wait!  Have a safe flight Auntie and I'll see you tomorrow....I get to have a sleepover with you!

Mommy took the day off today so we spent the day together doing errands.  Our morning started off great but then I got all "toddler" and didn't want to eat breakfast but I did eat, very well, but I kept getting all upset about everything.  Mommy was being very patient with me but we didn't even leave the house until after 11AM.  Mommy took me a lot of places because we were getting errands done for my bday.  I picked chocolate and strawberry for my cupcakes/cake!  I was very good at all the stores for Mommy and she told me so.

When I woke up from my nap, my new Thomas bed had been delivered.  Mommy and Daddy showed me the pictures on the Internet and asked me if I was ready for a big boy Thomas the Train bed which I could barely answer because my beautiful eyes were so big with excitement....uh YEAH I WANT A THOMAS THE TRAIN BED....sometimes, geesh, parents....I love TRAINS, OF COURSE I WANT A TRAIN BED!!!!

Well....I have to go night night......I'm going with Mommy to her big "relay".... and I get to see Brandon, Aunt Cyndi, Uncle Eric (I keep telling my Mommy that I want to ride in your truck), Mamo, Grampy and AUNT LINDA......YIPPEE!

3rd Year Portraits

Last Saturday, Mom and I took Aidan to get his pictures taken at JCPenney.  Aidan took his trains, posed, smiled and did so great!  This year, I had a list, had a goal to NOT spend an hour deciding on pics, so we got pictures ordered and were riding the escalators for enjoyment, all within an hour from our appointment.  After we left the T.O. Mall, we headed for the Simi Mall, where Grandma, Aidan and I rode the train, rode some more escalators, rode the $.75 motorcycle ride and then had some lunch.  I love days like that.  Being able to have fun and spend time, low key, as well as doing with it my Mom, is great.  I can still hear Aidan laughing from the backseat, Grandma makes him laugh the entire drive from Thousand Oaks to Simi.  Aidan just adores his grandma and I'm sure it's nice for her on days like this to "just be the grandma".  She spends most days not only being a grandma but being the babysitter and all of know that taking care of a toddler is not easy and you have to scold, give timeouts, etc.  So.....I'm certain that "Mamo" loves to sit back, have fun and not worry about being the "enforcer" ha ha ha

Papa and "andma" Lori

Two Wednedays ago was our last Gymboree class.  As we drove past the freeway onramps, Aidan said "I go see Papa and andma Ori".  He is such a smart boy...he knew exactly where we get on the freeway to go see Papa and Grandma.  So two weekends ago, we sent to see Papa, who is recovering from surgery, and Grandma.  Aidan loves to spend time at their house.  They have a motorcycle there for Aidan to play outside on.  Grandma and Papa read Aidan's Thomas book that he insisted on taking.  He knew bright and early Saturday morning that he wanted Grandma & Papa to read to him.  We got hoagies for lunch, Grandma played baseball as Aidan calls it and just had a really great time with his grandparents.

Baby Bus

Grampy bought me a car seat for his van and now I get to go places in the "baby bus".  Grampy takes me out to lunch, to ride the train at the mall, to many different grocery stores, etc.  I love to ride the escalator and Grampy takes me to the mall, lets me walk around and go up and down the escalators.  Grandpa's are really great, they are not as strict as Mommy and Daddy's and my Grampy is the best!  I love to get out and go go go, and you know what???? so does my Grampy!!!  Mommy tells me that since she was a teenager, Grampy always wanted to "go for a drive".  WELL....I love to go for rides and Grampy loves to take me!  YEAH!

Uncle Jeff

Uncle Jeff flew from his wedding in Poland to Seatlle, picked up his truck that he had shipped from Alaska and drove to see me!  Yeah!  As soon as Uncle Jeff's truck pulled up, I went and gave him a kiss and then we went to lunch at McDonalds and then ran to Target because Uncle needed a few things.  We went to Red Robin that night for dinner and Uncle got to meet my friends Caitlan, Courtney, Scott and Jen.  The next day, Daddy and Uncle Jeff spent the entire day taking me to the Santa Barbara Zoo!  Uncle rode the train with me and we had a lot of fun!  That night we went over to Mamo and Grampy's house for pizza because they wanted to see my Uncle Jeff.  Even though Uncle already left to go to his new house in Phoenix, I still ask about my Uncle Jeff.

11 day vacation with my Mamo & Grampy

Mommy and Daddy went to Paris/Poland for eleven days so I got to vacation at Mamo and Grampy's house for eleven days.  I had so much fun.  We did a lot of fun things.....we went out to breakfast, to The Farm, to the mall to get a jamba juice, ride the train and see the fish and to the Chuckster with Aunt Cyndi, Uncle Eric and Brandon as well.  I got to eat lots of ice-cream, stay up late and just have fun with my Grandma and Grampy.  Thank you Mamo and Grampy for taking good care of me and letting me stay with you.  I love you.

Missing you before we've even left

I’ll miss your very warm and lengthy morning hugs

I’ll miss you reminding every day that you want to open and close the garage door
I’ll miss you telling me every morning “You go this way Mommy….I go this way Mommy” as we get out of the car to walk into Grandma/Grampy’s house
I’ll miss you telling me at least seven times a day about your “happy, train town, candles, etc.”
I’ll miss “Chase Aidan” and running up and down the stairs (with the duck) chasing you
I’ll miss playing hide and seek (again…with the duck) and pretending to NOT know where you’re hiding
I’ll miss you wearing your t-shirt on your head and that incredible smile you give us every night before bath
I’ll miss you “bopping” with Daddy as you stand naked on your changing table singing
I’ll miss you telling me after your bath “go at-tacks” (meaning take out your contacts) so Daddy and I can play hide and seek
I’ll miss you putting your hand on my arm the entire time I read you your bedtime stories
I’ll miss you sitting on my lap  every night before bed as you play with your clock and I get an entire three minutes to cuddle with you
I’ll miss singing “you are my sunshine” every night at bedtime
You are the light of my (our) life and I’ll miss everything…..the great, the good, the not so great, the bad because that’s what makes you the amazing little boy that you are.
Daddy and I will be back before you know it.  We love you.

Aidan's first kiss!

We went to the park today and Aidan was having a great time playing with a little girl named Miranda who turned 3 in June.  They played on the slides, climbed up the slides backwards, played with sticks..etc.  They were really playing good together.  Aidan kept telling her about his "happy" at "train town" and about his cupcakes and song.  I was standing talking to Miranda's dad and at one point I heard her say to Aidan, "I know....you've told me 5 times already, come over here"!  So cute.......
The best part was when it was time to leave.  Miranda blew Aidan a kiss and he did the same back and as we walked away to the car, Miranda said "stop, wait" and she walked up to him, put her hand on his face and kissed his cheek.  He got so excited and was hopping and running to the car, all at once.  I've never seen that type of reaction.  It was such a cute moment!

9/11/11

To state that ten years ago on 9/11/01 was a horrific day would be an understatement.  We saw the absolute worse of what hate and people can do and yet we saw the absolute best in people  and how complete strangers showed love, compassion and pure sacrifice.  To move on and rebuild is what our country did but to not take a moment, remember and say a prayer would do all those that died a dishonor.  Someday in the future, when Aidan is older, Tim and I will take him to New York and show him the memorial that is being built where the towers use to stand and show him the new towers that are being built.
It's our jobs as parents to teach or kids what seems like a zillion things....and amidst teaching them their colors, ABCs, no spitting, eat your food and so on and so on but it's a day like yesterday that puts in perspective how important it is to teach your child right from wrong, how to be kind, to lend a helping hand to someone in need, to be resilient and to never give up, no matter how bad life seems to get.

Labor Day

This morning we got to sleep until 7 and the best part is staying in your pjs, watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, playing, eating breakfast and just relaxing. Having an extra day like today enables me to take my time cleaning up the house, Aidan loves for me to chase him with his duck so I'll start folding laundry and Aidan will say "chase Aidan" so we're running around sounding like a bunch of elephants. It's nice because Aidan can play with Mommy and Daddy and not always at the same time which gives us a chance to straighten up but also get lots of play time in.

Grandma and Grampy came over at about 11:30 and we headed over to swim at the pool. Aidan was really excited to get to play in the pool with Grampy. After some swimming, we barbecued some brats and Aidan got to sit and tell Grandma all about our day yesterday. We had some root beer floats and enjoyed a fun visit.

After our naps, (ha....I managed to sneak in a 20 minute nap myself), we headed over to the Bunch's for a bbq. We met another very nice family with three girls. Aidan had a great time playing and as we were leaving, all the girls said in unison "bye Aidan". It was really cute.

We once again got home pretty late and it was after 10 by the time Aidan fell asleep but he did great, plus he loves playing with Caitlan and she adores him.  She sits next to him and tells him to eat his dinner, she got out of the hot-tub because she felt bad that Aidan couldn't get in, Aidan started crying and she stopped what she was doing to come to his rescue.  She told me tonight " I really like spending time with Aidan".  She played hide and seek with him and loves to sit and sing to him.  He sits right next to her and listens and cooperates when she cues him to sing his part.  She's an amazing little girl and Aidan is lucky to have a friend like her.

Well, our awesome three day weekend has come to an end.  We maxed out the fun.....
Friday-Chuckster,
Sat-errands, Papa/Grandma/bike ride to duck park
Sun-Train/bus ride, Zoo
Mon-Grandma/Grampy, swim, "annie's doll house"
Good luck tomorrow Aunt Cyndi.  I hope your first day at your new school and in your new classroom goes great.  Love you.

'Surprise" bound-choo choo

One of the best feelings is planning an all day trip encompassing your child's most favorite things and having the day turn out as great as you had hoped and planned.  We all went to bed on time last night to prepare for our big day today.  The only thing Aidan knew was that we were taking the train and that he had another 'surprise" coming.  We got up early, got McD's b-fast and headed to the train station where we ate in the car.  The train was right on time and we were Santa Barbara bound by 8:50 AM.  After discussing the crying incident that happened on Thurs at the train station, Aidan was indeed prepared and there were no tears today when the trains arrived at the stations.  We were in SB at 10:20 AM and walked towards the pier where we got on the wrong shuttle, got off and found the correct shuttle/bus.  For about a week now, Aidan keeps asking to ride on a bus so he was extremely happy to ride the bus that took us to the Zoo.  The zoo was Aidan's surprise and boy was he excited!  The line to buy tickets at the zoo was ginormous but we walked right by since we rock with our zoo memberships!  We looked at all the animals, ate our lunch, played many times on the green mountain that you slide down(with Daddy and doing some fancy new moves....video to follow soon), had a timeout, saw some more animals, watched a lived dinosaur show where Aidan impressed us by sitting for the entire show and then it was back to catch the bus to take us back to the pier.

The Santa Barbara Pier was really crowded but we made our way and found a fish and chips place for Daddy that had chicken nuggets for Aidan and a chicken sandwich for Mommy.  We sat facing the ocean, watched all the boats, birds and crazy people.  It took a little patience and work to get Aidan to behave, sit and eat but we figured it out through a lot of patience on our part.  We gave ourselves plenty of time so we never had to rush.....it was great, the fog finally burned off around noon and it was a pretty day.  We bought Aidan a leopard toy at the zoo and he was walking playing with it and so many people just looked, smiled and some would comment as to how cute he is.

We walked back to the train station with plenty of time to kill, sat down in the grass and we were all relaxing.  Our train was scheduled to leave at 6:17PM.  A train arrived about 5:45 and we figured it was another train.  Just to be safe, I went and asked (since no announcement or anything was posted on the board), sure enough, it was OUR train!  Ha ha ha, we....... ok, ME, panicked a tad but the train was just there early and wasn't allowed to leave the station until it's scheduled departure so we were fine.  On the Surfliner Train 11, we were assigned seats, unlike the train we took to SB or the ones we took to Fullerton.  I got seated next to a woman who was also Simi Valley bound who rode from Oregon (24 hours).  Aidan immediately livened up that portion of the train by just walking over and talking to the woman.  She loves kids and loved Aidan.  Said how smart and what a good talker he is for his age.  I'm not bragging or anything, just a very proud moment for both Daddy and I.  We talked the entire way or should I say Aidan talked the entire way.  There were a bunch of older folks sitting around us and they seemed to enjoy our rowdy, never sit still child.  At one point, Aidan discovered the call light for the train attendants or engineers, whatever they are called.  This older woman comes over and pretends to give Aidan a hard time about pushing the button, it was cute.

It's not to say the entire day went perfectly, we had our moments, falling, crying, running off and NOT stopping, almost tantrum for not letting him eat just french fries, whining here and there but we are not perfect and neither are toddlers.  Aidan was truly a great little boy and we absolutely loved taking him today.  With work, days like today are not really feasible too often but when they happen, we do our very best to enjoy every minute of the day!

We know we wore Aidan out because the drive home was the first time, all day, that the chatter box didn't have anything to say.

Tantrum oh tantrum

Aidan threw his first big tantrum in the grocery store today.  He was being my helper and things were going great until he dropped a piece (tiny) of apple on the floor.  When I told him that he could not have it, the crying and meltdown began.  The crying led to screaming, all while trying to check out.  I have to say, the grocery clerks worked really fast to get us out of there!  As soon as we got home, we had to walk right by Papa and Grandma who came to visit and go upstairs for a timeout.  After our timeout was done, we played and had lunch with Grandma and Papa.  Grandma and Aidan made brownies and Aidan was super happy that Papa and Grandma came to visit.                                                                               During Aidan's nap, I went to get my hair done, to initiate "operation beautify Mommy".  For our trip that is.....that is less than two weeks away.  I have had tears come to my eyes Thurs, Fri and today just thinking of leaving my little screamer!  Daddy and Aidan went on a bicycle ride to the duck park, I met up with them after "operation beautify mommy" and then we went home for dinner and tried to get Aidan to bed on-time tonight since we have a really big day planned for him tomorrow!

Chuckster

I picked up Caitlan this afternoon and we "surprised" Aidan at Grandma/Grampy's house.  At first Aidan just looked at Caitlan and then ran in excitement to Grampy's chair.  Cait and Aidan played a little bit, we got to hear Caitlan's interactive song she sings with Aidan and then we were off to Chuck E Cheese for some fun.  We played ski ball, air hockey and the kids played a water game quite a few times as well as many others before we sat down and had some pizza and breadsticks.  Aidan adores Caitlan and will do just about anything she tells him but he refused to go on the miniature carousel. So they climbed and played in the playground equipment which is great because it's free!  ha ha

Caitlan was responsible for all our tickets we acquired and she showed Aidan how to feed them in the machine that counts them for you.  Caitlan finally said to me "can you please tell him to stop pushing the button?"  Every time she would feed 1,2,3 tickets in the machine, Aidan would push the button to cash out!  Let's just say, it took a very long time to count 64 tickets!!!!
We all had a really fun night and not even five minutes after we left Caitlan's house, Aidan was already asking to go back to Chuck E. Cheese!  Let the Labor Day weekend of fun begin!

Aidan's Turn

After work yesterday, Aidan and I went over to the Amtrak station to print our tickets for our fun trip we have planned for Sunday.  I checked the train schedules ahead of time to ensure we got to see a train while there printing our tickets.  As the metrolink pulled in to the station, Aidan actually cried!  It was the first time the train scared him enough to cry.  As the train pulled away and we waved bye, I told Aidan that we get to ride a train on Sunday.  I wish I could have recorded that very moment because the way his little face lit up and the shriek he made in excitement was so cute.   We stopped to grab some take out and the entire drive he kept saying "Aidan's turn to ride train" and asked me many questions such as "train ride B's house? "Mamo going? etc.  While I was paying and we were waiting for our food, Aidan started talking to a complete stranger and was telling her all about the train, that is what his "upise (surprise), that we were NOT going to B's house, that is was his turn to ride the train, and so on.  The woman said "wow, he sure is outgoing, how old is he?"

Seventeen months ago our pediatrician told us to get him involved in a social type of setting and as all of you know, Gymboree was the 1-2 time a week class I started him in and it was NOT easy and every week during the structured class was challenging.  Gymboree is almost wrapping up, of course right, just when he loves it!  It's amazing how toddlers work, how they learn and just how much influence parents, caregivers, family and friends can have on kids.  The day to day things we do with our children and the everlasting effects it can have.

Hot weekend!

I spent over 30 minutes writing a blog just to have it deleted so I'll just make this one quick.  Sorry it's been so long since I've written about Aidan.  He is doing great!  He's changing....seems like daily and it's not always a walk in the park trying to teach him right from wrong and getting him to move forward in his maturity but we are patient and work with him daily.  Just tonight, he ate a pretty decent serving of spaghetti and said "yum".  My favorite thing is just to be able to get up on a weekend morning, have bfast, clean and do all the normal errands with Aidan.  This morning, I got an extra hour of sleep thanks to Tim and Aidan so feeling all refreshed, I made a big breakfast which included cinnamon rolls aka "treat" which Aidan tried, ate and liked.  He helps me do the laundry as he did this morning, followed by grocery shopping.  He points out the different fruit, decides on the type of cake mix to buy and shopping turns out to be a great learning experience.  We see our favorite pharmacist so we stop by quickly to say hi, she gives Aidan some stickers, we check out, hurry home, put away only the cold stuff and head to the "blue" park where the water play area will only be on until next weekend.  We play and head home for a late lunch, make some cupcakes, take a nap and then go swimming with Scott, Courtney, Daddy and me.  For me, the day flys by.  I love days like this.  It makes me wish even that much more that I could be a stay at home Mom.....what I wouldn't give to be one.

Since Aidan's babysitters (ha ha aka Grandma & Grampy) took a half day yesterday, I got to take a half day which I loved.  Aidan and I headed to the beach.  I'm not going to say it was the perfect afternoon, far from it, it was raining, cold and even though we played and had fun, the trip did entail a breakdown because of a piece of cheese that got dropped in the sand!  I do have a point and that is, even the meltdowns put in perspective what it means to be a parent.  It takes you the happiest place (and it's not Disneyland) and takes you to the most frustrating place and it can all happen within 10 minutes of one another and yet you wouldn't trade either set of emotions for anything in the world.   Just last night, he splashed in the bathtub and got the floor drenched, I said, Aidan, no, if you do it again, you're getting out so he looks at me and with the most defiant look on that precious little face, does it again but even harder.  I immediately took him out of the tub, of course there was a lot of crying involved but less than 15 minutes later, the three of us are playing "tunnels" (using A's train's and a rug) and Aidan just plops over and gives me the biggest hug.

He tells me what song he wants me to sing him at night and just today, starting humming while I sing.  I laughed, so he laughs and then we're both laughing and it's just great.

We implemented a sticker reward chart which he gets when he goes potty and it is working out quite well!
Well enough for tonight.....I put a lot of pics from August in the attached slide show.

My little buddy

Aidan and I got to spend a little time this evening playing at the park together...just the two of us. He picks which park we go to and today it was the "Lion" Park. I sat in the little "house" and Aidan pretended to serve me hot dogs, fries and lollipops and I pretended to eat everything he made me. We searched for sticks, went down the slide and ran around the park. Aidan tripped and fell on his knee, I kissed it and then we kept running. For the first time ever, Aidan told me he was ready to go home by saying "Mommy I go home, ride tricycle" so we did just that. I made up a song about Aidan running and hurting his knee and he had me sing it at least 20 times tonight.

We only had to have one timeout tonight! Lately he refuses to cooperate or do most things we ask him like park your tricycle, wash your hands, come to the dinner table, go upstairs for bath, stop yelling, stop spitting and etc. Yesterday was the first time that I realized his timeouts are not as effective as they were a month ago so I have to move his timeout to a place that isn't fun nor has any toys. I think yesterday morning at bfast he actually wanted a timeout more than he wanted to eat breakfast. He is definitely becoming more and more independent and is trying many tactics to get his own way. I love watching this learning process but at the same time, it's tough when he looks right at you and purposely screams and spits and most of the time, one right after the next. I guess it cannot always be fun, giggles, hugs and kisses but sometimes I just want to play and have fun with him and not have to be miss meany all the time. This afternoon at the park and riding the tricycle outside was one of those fun, giggles, hugs and kisses moments.

At dinner, Aidan was reenacting Mickey Mouse pushing something heavy and then wiping his forehead and saying "whewwww". It was so cute and Tim tried so hard get it on video. Aidan and I had a pretty lengthy discussion at dinner as to he wants to invite to his party. He first says B of course, then Mamo, Grampy, Cynci, Eric, Aunta (Aunt Linda), Aunt (Aunt Cathy), Papa, Andma Ori (Lori), Annie (Caitlan) and so on.

When getting our pjs on, he asked me to sing "clubhouse" so I did which goes "It's the mickey mouse clubhouse, come inside, it's fun inside" Then Aidan says "Grampy (followed by singing ")Mickey Mouse clubhouse, come inside house" which is how Grampy sings it because he's never got any lyrics to any song correct! I was cracking up....the kid just pays attention and remembers so much. He is growing (just had to buy him size 8 shoe after Aidan repeatedly told me "shoes, too tight")and learning, being sweet, being not so sweet, making us all smile, making some of us want to cry at times and although some days I don't always feel like the best Mom, I do know that I'm a very lucky Mom and wouldn't change a thing.

Blogger Update

I've been working through the kinks with my new computer which is why I have not posted any pictures in a while. The last four blogs or so have been updated with slide shows. Have a great weekend. Ours started out great as we had pizza Friday preceeded by fun time at the pool with Mommy, Daddy and Grandma! We are getting up early to go watch Brandon play soccer. He plays Kendyl's team so it will be fun to see them both play! Looking forward to a fun day at Aunt Cyndi's house!

Circus Circus

Aidan turned another month older today! Aidan had the opportunity to go to the circus for the first time today. Kevin scored some tickets through work and Heather invited us to go with her, Kendyl, Cyndi and Brandon. We had the best time today. It's always fun to take off work and do something so cool like that with your son and even better when it is also with your nephew, sister and generous, nicest family....Heather, Kevin and Kendyl. It was Aidan's first time at the Staples Center. As he gets a little older, I hope to take him to many Clipper games and a few Laker games. Aunt Cyndi bought Aidan a really cool four wheeler truck at the circus, he had fun playing with it at intermission. Every time Aidan would put down the truck, Brandon would bring it back over to him. After a while, it got pretty funny. It's almost like B has watched Toy Story one too many times and felt sorry for the toy. I love spending time with both Brandon and Aidan and today was really great....plus I love the circus! Being a Mom has so many advantages, you get to do all the fun "kid" activities.

Aidan has not used the potty again since his first time on Saturday but we'll keep bribing him! His sleep pattern has changed this week, he doesn't want to go to bed at 8PM and last night I could still hear him talking and playing his aquarium until 9:30PM. Needless to say, he's a little cranky when I have to wake him up at 6:40 AM. He does so many sweet things. This afternoon, as Aidan was going to the pool with Daddy and I was in the kitchen (thinking both A & Tim had already left), Aidan pulls on my leg and makes a kissing sound....he ran back in the house to give me a kiss goodbye. He says thanks quite often, he makes sure he always tells Grampy bye bye and loves to stop at the window on the way to my car and yell through the window, "bye Grampy". Yesterday Gigi was over and we were almost late to Gymboree because Aidan had to make sure he told them both goodbye. Today when I dropped him off in the morning, he gets inside Grandma and Grampy's house and then turns to me and says "bye Mommy"....I'm kind of like, uh ok, I guess it's time for me to leave. But I love it because he has his routine down. He's doing really great at pool time. After we got back from the circus today, Aidan and Daddy got in the pool and Tim said he holds on to the side of the pool and scoots around the perimeter of the pool. He's an amazing like boy and I can't wait to see what new things he picks up by this time next month.

Carmageddon

So this weekend the buzz in our area is Carmageddon where the 405 is shut down for 53 hours. We stayed close to home all day to avoid any trouble. Today was mine and Aidan's last parent and me swim class. Aidan and another girl named Autumn were the biggest kids in the class, not quite old enough for one on one swim lessons and I truly didn't care that my kid looked like the only 4.5 year old in a 6-36 mo. class. He's tall....what can I say. The class enabled him to do things he didn't do five weeks ago. Grampy has worked with him in the hot tub for the last couple of weeks giving him the confidence he needs. Grandma & Grampy (aka Aidan's fan club) have been at every swim class except last week (Brandon's first soccer game), Aidan says no no most of the class but then I find something that sparks his curiosity like jumping in and out of the pool. In the end, I'm glad Aidan and I got to do this together.

After swimming and a whole lot of bribery, Aidan used his potty for the first time so we were off like a herd of turtles to McDs to reward our little guy. Grandma and Grampy have showed him the Elmo potty video and encouraged him to go sit on the potty and their hard work payed off today.

After nap today, the three of us went on a bike ride to the duck park where a Queen Tribute plan was playing. We packed some snacks, stopped to get some subs and had a really fun time. There were so many kids at the park, all ages, Aidan had a wonderful time running around playing with them. It was when he asked me to push him on the swing that I had a moment where I wished I could freeze frame! I mean really, there are all these teeny boppers running around being obnoxious and teenage boys being mean to one another and then there's my boy......so sweet at 2 years, 9 months, full of smiles and laughter, adores me and his Daddy, absolutely loves it when I do anything and everything with him, needs me to kiss his boo boos, plays cars with me, dances with me, laughs at me, hugs me when he's scared, hugs me when he's happy, kisses me whenever I ask, truly my favorite person to be around. How about you stay this way forever? I guess as his Mom I just have to remind myself to not take any day for granted. So....I'll be super proud of Aidan for being a big boy and using the potty but that doesn't mean that I want him to actually be a big boy.

My Boys

So this weekend we had the privilege of spending it with Brandon. It truly is a privilege to be his Aunt. I love him so much as does his cousin Aidan, Grandma, Grampy and Uncle Tim. I was only able to spend a few hours in the evening on Saturday at which time we played in both the little pool and the hot tub or "deep pool" as Aidan calls it. Never-the-less, it was a fun evening. On Sunday, Mom, Aidan, Brandon and I went to Underwood Farm. The boys are different in what sparks their curiosity which is so much fun to observe but a lot of diligent observation by Mom and I. Plus Mom had the fun job of taking B to the potty frequently...very frequently! But he handled using the porta-potty like a champ, as did Grandma. The boys had a great time running through the tunnels together and climbing/playing on the stationary train. Aidan loved climbing the combine and driving the steering wheel, Brandon loved climbing the hay stacks and playing in the dirt. Grandma played in the dirt with B as well, she truly is the greatest Grandma. They both loved feeding the animals carrots through the shoots and they both loved running around, eating goldfish crackers and observing all the animals. It's unique times like this that I am really glad that I didn't take the lazy, wake up leisurely approach, otherwise, I would miss out on spending such fun times with the two boys I love the most.

Of course we had to take them to McDs for lunch after the Farm. We ate our lunch, played and went home separately for some much needed naps.

Grandma made pizza for dinner and we managed to find time to get in the pool and hot tub with Grampy, followed by bath and then watching Mickey's Clubhouse where at the end of every show, they play the "hot dog song" so all of us.......Grandma, Grampy, Aidan, Brandon and I all danced to the very catchy "hot dog hot dog hot diggety dog" song. My nephew never ceases to impress us with his vocabulary and intellect, before dinner, Brandon wanted something that he really couldn't have right before din din and I told him he could have it after we ate and he responded "I don't like that plan". I laughed, stopped what I was doing, walked over and kissed him and as hard as it is to NOT give in to your brilliantly smart nephew, I carried on. Mom and Jim told me that when they were driving B home after his soccer game, he said "look an 18 wheeler". Yep, that's how smart my Brandon is!

Independence Day!

Our July 3rd and 4th was pretty fun. We made it fun. It's not always easy breezy keeping Aidan content and happy and this weekend certainly challenged our parenting skills. On Sun, the 3rd we had lunch and lots of fun at Grandma and Grampy's house in Aidan's little pool. After A's nap, he was crying and whining and we really didn't know what to do because we planned on taking him to Moorpark's fireworks which is held the day before Independence Day. We decided to eat dinner at home to buy ourselves some time. After dinner and Aidan asking us to see "ackerworks" or something that sounded a lot like crackerjacks (which made me want some of those) we braved the crowds. We couldn't park in the event parking because we were way too late but we circled a few residential areas for some time until we luckily found a spot. We had quite a ways to walk and 2 hours to kill but our little guy is quite the trooper, walked the entire way and then we played at a park (adjacent to where the fireworks were)until it was too dark to see anymore. The first firecracker lit up the sky and Aidan hugged me really tight but didn't cry and loved it! It was our first time taking him to the fireworks and something we will continue to do every year until he's a teenager and no longer finds us funny and cool! He was up so late and it took us forever to get out of Moorpark that Aidan said "my bed, night night".

July 4th started out whiny and crying again but we got it together and rode our bikes in 90+ degree temps to the duck park where we fed the "baby ducks", played and then rode to McD's for a happy meal and playtime on the "happy meal slide". I love his names for things. After all of our naps, we went to Grandma and Grampy's and had the best time bbq, playing in the pool, seeing Gigi, taking a bath and concluding with waiting for the lights to come on outside. He loves their palm tree when it lights up as well as the gazebo lights which he refers to as the "lighthouse lights". We are lucky to have our independence and we are so lucky to be together as a family and enjoy the little things that really mean the most in life.

Train, Train all the way

Day 2 of our July 4th weekend totally rocked! I'm really not sure who was more excited to ride the train, me or Aidan. I was wide awake and way too excited WAY TOO early this morning! I woke up Aidan at 7:10 this AM and we were out the door at 7:30AM in route to the Simi train station. We printed our tickets, met Grandma there and waited for the train to promptly arrive at 8:22 AM. Aidan was so excited to get on the train and at first it took us a while to find a place to sit, but then we found a table and ate a little breakfast and enjoyed our 1 hr 48 min ride to Fullerton!

Cyndi, Eric and Brandon picked us up and we headed to their house where we played, ate lunch, went swimming, rested on B's couch while eating snacks and watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates, played some more, ate an early dinner and then it was back to the Fullerton station to catch the 6:10 PM train back to Simi. The train going back home was not as crowded and just as the ride to Cyndi's, the ride back was just as fun. Aidan, Grandma and I had the best day! We are so glad we got to see Brandon and taking a train was a lot of fun! When we were leaving Cyndi's house, Brandon said "but I don't want you to leave". He just makes my day....I love my nephew so much and I didn't want to leave either. Brandon sat on my lap and asked me to read him a book this afternoon, not just once but twice. We use to cuddle a lot when he was a baby so I'll take the five minutes of cuddle time and appreciate every minute to it's fullest. He is the smartest three year old and I love spending time with him. Today was just an awesome day for me personally. Being able to spend such great time with Aidan and Brandon makes me the happiest.

First Day of July 4th Weekend!

Daddy had the day off today so my fourth of July weekend started today, July 1st! Daddy and I went and picked up Grandma and Grampy this morning and headed to the Santa Barbara Zoo! We had a really fun day at the Zoo. I slid down the mountain on my cardboard and today I tried the steep side, unfortunately I fell and hit my face and ate a little sand. I wasn't too happy. Before bed tonight, I told Mommy that Papi (kiss sound) my boo boo at zoo while I pointed to my cheek. I'm really smart and my Mommy tells that to me a lot! Grandma, Grampy, Daddy and I rode the train and had to wait in a long line but I love trains so it's worth it! I slept for a bit on the way home and then watched cartoons and waited for Mommy to get home.

For dinner, we met Caitlan, Courtney, Jen and Scott at Red Robin and Caitlan convinced me to eat 3/4th of my grilled cheese. Caitlan and Courtney brought me back a really cool red car from their trip to Hawaii. I love it and played with it while waiting for our food. After we ate, Caitlan Courtney and I got to ride the train at the mall! This weekend is going to be filled with trains, trains trains!! I love seeing the girls and was pretty sad to have to say good-bye.

Last Weekend in June

Mommy and I went to our swim class together on Saturday, I am really good at standing on the side of the pool and jumping in. I kicked my feet and did pretty good. Grandma walked over to the pool and watched me and then on our walk to the car, there was Grampy! Then we drove home, and Papa was at my house! I am so loved!

On Sunday morning, Daddy left early to go mountain biking and Mommy and I had a quick breakfast and then Grandma Lori and Papa came over and we drove to Underwood Farm. I rode the train ride twice, fed all the animals carrots, went on a cow ride with Grandma, climbed on the combine and even went down the combine slide! I had the best time at the Farm with my Grandma and Papa. Mommy bought me a ticket to ride the electric tractor but I didn't quite grasp the concept of keeping my foot on the gas. Mommy still helped me and it was a lot of fun. After the Farm, Grandma and Papa bought me and Mommy lunch at McD's. I was so excited to go there and kept saying "happy meal Mommy" and "eyes" meaning fries! After I ate my lunch I went and played on the McD's playground equipment. It was my first time to crawl up the tunnel and then go down the slide. My last trip there, I would attempt to crawl up the tunnel but I just wasn't quite sure on that one. Well this Sunday was different and I did it! I had the best day ever and it just got better. After my nap, we went over to Grandma and Grampy's house for dinner. It's kinda our new thing now.....Sunday dinner at Grandma's..... at least once a month. I love going to their house....it's pretty much my house too!

2 years, 8 months

Aidan turned another month older yesterday. Not quite sure how it's possible but he gets cuter everyday. I find myself having real back and forth conversations with him. He amazes me with his memory and being able to re-tell what occurred. Just tonight he told us how a car went honk honk (last night before bed) and two weeks ago how Daddy tried to get rid of the cricket or how he went in the pool w/Grampy on Monday or how Daddy honked his horn at swim lessons. We ask him what park he wants to go and he decides, right now his favorite is the "duck park". He loves to feed the ducks and then go play. I'm so proud to say that he does great at Gymboree or EB as he calls it. I've been taking him now for 14 months and it's been a struggle. I'm glad that we stuck with it. Aidan says yes please often which is the sweetest thing. He loves riding on his new seat on Daddy's bicycle. He does not put up a fight wearing his helmet and really has fun with his Daddy. He ate an Arby's jr. roast beef sandwich as well as mashed potatoes, green beans, cherries, itsy bitsy bite of pinaapple and avocado this month. He still loves hot dogs and now asks for "happy meal please mommy"! Aidan has a great humor about him....just tonight as Grandma was walking us to the car and saying bye, I said, "thanks Mom" and Aidan repeats me loudly "THANKS MOM"....Mom and I were cracking up and so was Aidan. Then I tickle him and he keeps laughing. He has the best smile, laugh, voice, personality...well everything. He even spits cute (when he's mad) but he hates being threatened with a time out and so far, no timeouts in 3 weeks! We all love him so much. He makes each day a wonderful day.

Swim Day at Aunt Gerry & Uncle Bob's

Grandma and Grampy took me to Ventura yesterday to go swimming at Aunt Gerry and Uncle Bob's timeshare. I had so much fun jumping in the pool and splashing in the water with my Grampy. My cousins Max, Ali and Alex were there and I had fun seeing and playing with them. Gigi was there too and she rode in the car with us to and from Ventura. Once we got back to Grandma/Grampy's house, Gigi asked me for one of my goldfish crackers and at first I said no but then Mommy told me to be nice and share so I did because I'm a good boy (and I wanted to go to the duck park)! Thanks for a really fun day family!

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to the best Daddy who always make me laugh

Happy Father's Day to the best Grampy who always has time to play with me

Happy Father's Day to the best Papa who always gives the best hugs

Happy Father's Day to the best Grandpa that I miss so much

First Swim Class

Aidan and I did our first "parent and child" swim class this past Saturday. Aidan did not get upset and seemed to have fun. Thanks to his fan club (Grandma, Grampy, Daddy) for making the swim class fun!

Zoo time with my Uncle Rick & Daddy

I got to go in and wake up my Uncle Rick and say "animals" "zoo". Uncle Rick and Daddy took me for breakfast at McD's and then we drove to the Santa Barbara Zoo. We had a really fun day. Unfortunately the blue train at the zoo had what Daddy called a "boo-boo" but I didn't get too upset about it.

After a day at the zoo, we came home, rested and then we all went and met the Bunch's for dinner. Daddy wanted Uncle Rick to meet our friends and I wanted to play with "Annie" and "Nee" before they go on their two week vacation.

After dinner and my bath, Uncle Rick played cars with me and then read me a story. I'm sure going to miss my Uncle.
